Ever worn your Wellies to Work?

The Lifeboat Fund’s 2013 Appeal is gathering pace with the Department for Work and Pensions’ Big day of fundraising on 20 September - featured in the last website article.

For any supporters who would like to help but are not sure what to do, why not organise a Wellies to Work Day for your colleagues? That is what Defra did in July, and it was a great success; see below.

The RNLI has produced a leaflet and a poster to help in planning and publicising these events. If you want to customise the poster for your Lifeboat Fund events to support the RNLI, please contact The Fund’s Secretary, Angela Saunders: 0131 244 8488. Branding stickers can also be supplied for publicity, to join The Fund’s logo with that of the RNLI.

The RNLI's leaflet contains lots of ideas and advice: colleagues can get involved in the fun without wearing wellies at all!

The RNLI suggests 1 November 2013 as "Wear Your Wellies to Work Day", but any day that works for you and your volunteers is a good day to raise money for The Lifeboat Fund’s 2013 Appeal.

One of Defra’s principal fundraisers, Marilyn Rawson, who promoted its event across the Defra Network, said:

“We were delighted at raising over £1,000 from our ‘Wear Your Wellies To Work’ day. Our Permanent Secretary, Bronwyn Hill, gave a great lead by wearing her wellies and colleagues around the country joined in with enthusiasm.

"This year’s Appeal is buying lifeboat crew kit, so being sponsored to wear our own wellies seemed appropriate - even though it was one of the hottest days of the year.  To keep the funds rolling in, we’re organising a quiz evening in November and a cake sale in December.”

Very well done Defra - many thanks for all your support!

If you hold a 'Wellies Day', don’t forget to take a photo and (with the permission of those featured!) send it to Angela for the website.
