HMRC gets all the answers right!

HMRC's Dorchester House Sports & Social Committee - with sterling support from Jackie Heron - was given the opportunity to do a specific fundraising event for The Lifeboat Fund, to boost its support of the RNLI.  This particularly struck a chord with the local Comms Rep Gavin Gallagher as he is hoping to move to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency in the next few months.

Gavin agreed to take the lead, and produced a RNLI-themed quiz.  It was felt that would be the best way to reach as many people as possible, and would also raise general awareness of what the charity’s brave volunteers actually do - 24hrs a day, 365 days a year.

On 4th November 2014, a total of 160 copies of the quiz were sold in the office by the Dorchester House Sports and Social Committee and 60 entries scored a maximum 10/10.  The lucky winner pulled at random from the correct entries was Brenda McCloy who won a nice bottle of wine and box of chocolates for her trouble!

Jackie said after the event:

“The event was a fantastic success and I do believe it was the highest earning quiz we have produced to date for a charity, which just shows how highly we think of the dedication and bravery of the RNLI crews who put their own lives at risk to save others.

“We hope to make this a regular event in our fundraising calendar.

"The Lifeboat Fund is probably not the first charity we think of to either give to or collect for - but those who are unfortunate enough to need their services are probably thankful that somebody took the time to do both.  We raised a bit of money and had a bit of fun doing it."

The Lifeboat Fund is extremely grateful to Jackie, Gavin and all your colleagues who supported the quiz event.

The brave crew members we trained through The Fund’s 2014 Appeal will be delighted to have such great support – and you’re correct that those saved and rescued by lifeboat crews (an average of 23 souls every day) are very thankful too!
