Charity welcomes new Trustees at its AGM

It’s always great to welcome new members onto the management team and, recently, no less than seven Civil Service colleagues joined The Fund’s Executive Committee.  Our AGM on 17 April 2013, at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s (RNLI) London and South East Regional Office, was a perfect opportunity to meet these new members.

Our new Trustees are: Conrad Bailey and Jonathan Knott (both from Foreign and Commonwealth Office), David Pitchford (Cabinet Office), Peter Schild (HM Revenue & Customs), Paul Shipley (Ministry of Justice), Michael Trevett (Office for National Statistics) and Linda Wilson (Northern Ireland Civil Service).  They joined Trustees from the Department for Work and Pensions, Scottish Government, the Department of Health, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Home Office, and the Civil Service Pensioners’ Alliance.

The AGM heard that 2012 had been a very successful year, with a total of almost £120,000 raised for the RNLI, to: maintain our lifeboats in its fleet; train RNLI lifeguards; and buy new improved-safety lifejackets for lifeboat crew members.  An extremely warm ‘thank you’ was recorded at the meeting to our excellent supporters and donors.

As well as greeting those new Senior Civil Service Trustees (recruited following Trustees’ Week 2012), another exciting development was the launch of a strategic review of the charity.  This will provide an independent view of how well we are doing in our outreach, communications and fundraising - and tell us how we can improve our operations.  A new business plan, and advice on its implementation, will be produced and help The Lifeboat Fund to grow and build significantly on its recent success.

Anyone wishing to know more about the review, or to contribute his/her ideas, should please contact Secretary, Angela Saunders (0131 244 8488).
