Keep Calm and Love a Duck

On 17 March 2014, at Meldrum House, Edinburgh,  a ‘crew’ from HM Revenue & Customs: ‘Captain’ Deborah Wilson and fellow crew members, Natasha, Gayle and Julie, delivered an event their colleagues will long remember.

Amazing cakes covering the space of no less than three tables were produced by HMRC colleagues – of special note being Jill Miller’s Lifeboat cake (pictured).  Rubber ducks went on parade - promoted with witty slogans including the headline - while books, DVDs and CDs were also sold for donations; and colleagues enjoyed a raffle with some lovely prizes – all to the soundtrack of ‘boat’ and ‘duck’-themed music, provided by DJ (Ian) Smally.   RNLI hair and jacket clips for children were produced by a talented colleague, and the RNLI’s lucky lifeboat and scratchcard games were a success.

There were many winners over this lunchtime of fun and games, but the biggest winner was The Lifeboat Fund, as £872.97 was raised for the charity. That gift to The Fund’s 2014 Appeal will do more than pay for two days’ All Weather lifeboat training for a crew volunteer at the RNLI College in Poole.

Deborah said, “It was a wonderful day”.

We agree.

Massive thanks are due to HMRC’s ace fundraising crew for helping train a lifeboat crew volunteer to save lives!
