The music

Etcetera Civil Service Choir invites you on a beautiful musical journey through five world-changing events by Bob Chilcott with words by Charles Bennett:

  • The Invention of Printing
  • The Abolition of Slavery
  • The First Powered Flight
  • The Discovery of Penicillin
  • The First Man in Space

The concert also features the choral suite from Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, which was commissioned by the Royal Armouries to mark the transition from one millennium to another. The traditional Catholic Mass provides a framework for this large scale work and it includes popular settings of the Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. The performance will open with ‘L’Homme Armé’ from the larger work.

Admission is free. There will be a charity collection in aid of the Lifeboat Fund as well as the Cardinal Hume Centre which works to overcome poverty and homelessness and provides remarkable support to young and other vulnerable people.
