Ali's WOW of a Swim

Ali Wilkinson from DWP is challenging herself by swimming the length of Lake Windermere One Way (WOW), in aid of the Lifeboat Fund.

She's taking the plunge on Sunday 2nd September. The 11 mile swim starts at the southern end of the lake at Fell Foot Park, finishing at the northern end at Brathay Hall.

Ali's already had a warm up or two, including swimming from pier to pier in Blackpool, and at Llyn Padam in Wales.

Ali said:

A swim on a beautiful evening in Windermere a few weeks ago made me realise the enormity of what’s planned for September. Initially it was calm but when venturing further out the water became extremely choppy and a mile felt a lot longer than it should have, kept thinking just add another 10 miles on the day in question and it sort of hit home, reality!

Her support comes from her kayaker, family, friends and colleagues, many of whom have already contributed by donating or supporting her in her training.
